Knoxville – Rev3 Series Championship

“Kevin is so smooth he makes olive oil look rough.” – Tim Don

I should just end the blog right there, because what can I say that is going to be better than that?! Nothing. Nothing will be better. So read on if you dare, but trust me, it goes downhill from here.

First of all, I’m sad to see Rev3 going away (for pros anyways). Their races are always a blast, they make awesome pre and post-race videos, and have generally enriched the lives of pro triathletes (figuratively and literally) for the past few years. And maybe it’s just me, but I liked that I could just Facebook chat the race director if I needed any information about an upcoming race.

That being said I wanted to end my Rev3 career on a high note in Knoxville. A solid swim breakaway of myself, Cam Dye, Kyle Leto, Tim Don and Eric Limkemann (a blueseventy flush by the way) got away quickly and set up the whole day up for me. Tim, Eric and myself did our best to limit our losses to Cam over the 40 mile hybrid distance cycling course (I figured 3 minutes was where I needed the gap to be to have a chance of catching Cam on the 10 mile run). The gap was 3:15 at the start of the run, and I managed to slash it down to under a minute by mile 6.5 (doing my best to keep Tim Don within sight), but apparently at this point Cam found his mojo and reopened the gap at the end to hold on to second. So 3rd it was for me behind Tim and Cam – I was happy with a solid performance all around.

Next up is Boulder 70.3, which appears to be the backup race of choice for many who planned on Rev3 Quassy, so it will be a competitive field for sure.
