Fast Times at Cali 70.3

I’m glad I finally got out to do this race because it was a good one. With a huge crowd on course that consisted of a majority of my sponsors – BMC, Skins, ISM, and Shimano – as well as other industry folks, athletes not racing, athletes who were racing but dropped out, and lots of local San Diegans (and of course the online audience), it is a great place to have a good race. Fortunately I had a decent showing and got my season started on a good note.

As for the race, my swim was surprisingly awful, but I was able to stay in the race with a solid bike and run to end up sixth on the day. The best news, though, is that my ankle is good to go. After not racing for six months due to my ankle break last October it was good to be back around the same level I was last year.

Jan Frodeno showed he has no weakness this past weekend, as did Javier Gomez in Panama in February (as expected). The game is going up in 70.3! With that in mind I’m going to cut this blog short and go train.
